How recteq can take your salads to the next level this summer
Let’s get real: we all know you didn’t buy a recteq for the salad potential. But now that you’ve mastered smoking any meat under the sun, it’s time to throw a few more dishes on the table. Whether salads are your “bread and butter” or whether you avoid veggies like the plague, this is the perfect time of year to start rocking a healthier side salad or incredible salad-based main dishes to make mealtime more colorful and delicious.
Tip #1: Smoke the Protein
First things first: if you want to take your salad to the next level, topping it with your favorite smoked or grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp, steak, or pork is a sure-fire way to take your salad from boring side to main attraction. Here are a few of our favorite recipes to get you started:
Tip #2: Char the Greens
Have you tried grilling your actual salad? It sounds a little out there but it’s actually an incredible way to boost the flavor! To grill Romaine hearts, simply slice in half lengthwise, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt & pepper or your favorite recteq rub. Grilling for 2-3 minutes on each side should leave those leaves bursting with smoky flavor. Top your greens with fresh parmesan or your favorite salad dressing fresh off the grill and serve immediately!
Tip #3: Toast the Toppings
Beyond irresistible protein and veggie options, when it comes to creating the perfect salad, the fun is all in the toppings. Candied pecans give your salad a holiday crunch that somehow makes the whole meal feel a little more special. To make these on your recteq, combine a pound of pecans, three tablespoons of honey, and three tablespoons of Rossarooski’s Honey Rib Rub and cook on a grill mat for 45-60 minutes at 275℉. The same method will work for sunflower seeds, almonds, or cashews but you’ll need to adjust your cook times for the best results.
Tip #4: Bump up the Spices
Sometimes all you need to finish off a salad is the perfect spice combination. Our signature recteq blend spices aren’t just for cooking, they also add the perfect finisher to your salad! Here are a few to try for the perfect addition to your salad:
