Hot Dogs from recteq

It’s National Hot Dog Day and at recteq we are here for it

A quick, easy cook, totally customizable, and a little nostalgic for most of us, hot dogs are a treat you can’t overlook when making summer meal plans. Let’s be real, these are going to be a great dinner option all year round. What’s the secret to making hot dogs epically delicious on the recteq? Let’s check in with Chef John to find out how he made all these incredible hotdogs the recteq way!

Hot & Fast Hot Dog Basics

When choosing a hot dog, we recommend 100% beef or 100% chicken. Avoid any combinations or extra fillers for the best taste. Another little secret? Score the hot dogs to help them really absorb the seasoning and smoke flavor. A simple crisscross pattern with a knife will do the trick. Next, sprinkle on Rossarooski’s Honey Rib Rub. Chef John recommends heating up your recteq wood pellet grill with the Sear Kit to 500℉ for the best results. Watch these hot dogs carefully, because you probably won’t need to cook them more than 10 minutes.

For your hotdog buns, you can go with a classic steamed white bun or upgrade a little with pretzel rolls, Kaiser rolls, poppyseed rolls, or even a brioche hot dog bun. Looking for an extra challenge? Try smoking up a batch of fairground-favorite corndogs or salty-and-delicious pretzel dogs. Beyond the bun, when it comes down to it, it’s really all about the toppings; so let’s get fancy and make these next-level delicious.

Elote Dog

Serving corn on a hot dog may not be totally expected, but at recteq, we are all about the unexpected. Once you taste it, you will agree. Savory, creamy corn salad on top of a smoky hot dog is as unique as it is delicious. The sweet and savory flavors of Grilled Elote Salad with a smidge of Ray’s Loco Gringo Rub contrast perfectly with the smoky hot dog taste. Believe us, it’s amazing.

Taco Dog

If you love tacos, this the hot dog for you! We topped our freshly grilled hot dogs with all our favorite taco fixings and the results were sensational: sour cream, lettuce, cheese, onions, cilantro, and salsa, just to get you started. The sky is the limit, so choose your family’s favorites for Taco Dogs that will disappear in a flash.

Pizza Dog

Two American favorites melded into one delicious bite, try switching up Pizza Night with Pizza Dogs. This formula couldn’t be simpler; just pile on the shredded cheese and mini pepperonis and even a little tomato sauce if you’d like. We present: the Pizza Dog, all you need to make every kid’s dream meal a reality.

Chicago Dog

Obviously, we can’t have a hot dog party without the classic Chicago dog. For our rendition of this windy-city favorite, we serve our fresh grilled franks with a dill pickle spear, relish, Dijon mustard, purple onions, and tomatoes and garnish with banana peppers. If you can eat this without making a mess, you didn’t make it right.

Chili Dog

For the best Chili Dog you’ve ever had, take that freshly grilled dog and top with no-bean chili and freshly grated cheddar cheese. For double-smoked taste, make your chili from scratch using an enameled cast iron pot over the grates of your recteq. Finally, top the whole thing with diced red onion and corn chips. Here at recteq, we believe there’s no better way to serve meat than with a little more meat on top.

Reuben Dog

If you love a Reuben sandwich, this will be your favorite hot dog ever and it couldn’t be easier to prepare. Just add sauerkraut, chopped red onions, and a generous drizzle of Thousand Island Dressing for an authentic Reuben taste.

Banh Mi Dog

Ready for a hot dog unlike any you’ve had before? Then the Banh Mi Dog is for you. Topped with shredded carrots, cucumbers, radish, and jalapenos, you’ll enjoy the fresh, tangy combo when served over hot dogs fresh off the grill. Jody’s Asian Persuasion Rub and a touch of cilantro give this slaw-alternative the perfect kick.

The options really are limitless when it comes to hot dogs and their tasty toppings. Find a new way to enjoy hot dogs on the recteq and tag us on social media:
